Live Performance:   21 March 2021 / 10h-14h

Video Premiere:      12 June   2021 / 16h-18h

Lac de Vernes in Meyrin was chosen as the site for GWD 2021-Geneva. A human-made lake launched in 2017, it exemplifies many permaculture principles. The only lake entirely located in Geneva, it reduces risks related to phenomena caused by climate change. It collects rainwater and is connected to a project that separates rainwater from waste water, regulating flooding of the Nant d´Avril. It is a quality green space for the inhabitants of Geneva.

8 p.m. live video screening in Leipzig with performative parts

In a world ruthlessly exploited by humans, three glamorous characters search for water-rich places to enjoy their passions. But instead of water they find only ruins, parched trees & dried up ponds. They must let go their utopian idea of a watery world & accept that the world will not change according to their wishes but that they'll have to undergo a change within. Just when they have all come to terms with the new set of circumstances, they find the place of their buried dreams in the morning rain -a renaturalized lignite mine brimming with water- the Cospudener Lake in Lipsia, Germany.

Our group was formed in February by interested locals.
From the beginning we wanted to address the topic of water in a creative and interactive process and tell a story of water in reference to our city.
Performers, musicians, videographers and choreographic directors worked closely together on the film's storyboard. The result is a film of holistic nature that explores the liveliness of water on different levels:

water means life

Video during the GWD Festival Days

Awaya is a mountainous region in Benin where access to water is a challenge for many people. Paradoxically, water is available at the top of the hill. Our performance consists of desynchronizing modern and contemporary music to tell the story of the relationship that the surrounding villages have with the hill of Awaya by highlighting the culture of water collection on the hills.

Global Water Dances 2021 Köln

Jan Burkhardt

12.Juni 2021     15h        live performance and video

Originally the plan was to dance in downtown Bremerhaven, between the Climate House and the German Immgration House.
Due to Corona restrictions I had to change plans accordingly.
So the group filmed their local dance. I will do a solo dance including parts of the global dance on June 12, 2021 near a lake in a park close by. The solo will be filmed as well. I will merge both films into one video.
On Sep 4, 2021 we will dance the entire piece live as part of "The Long Night of Culture" at the original site in downtown Bremerhaven.

filmed in Portugal (March 2021) and Germany (May 2021)

This Video Performance is a short version of the Live Performance originally planned for the Global Water Dances Event in Weimar. Maintopic is soil erosion and how to counter this with permaculture. The Workdance seize the movements, while working within the permaculture context. The Video Performance also gives an insight into the construction of a water retention system in Portugal.

For further questions about permaculture, syntropic agriculture or water retention please contact the Project Coordinator for Portugal Lars Wild via e-mail: janus253@web.de

While technology has temporarily filled our physical gaps due to social distance in London and elsewhere, we have engaged into dialogues beyond geographical boundaries, showing human network contains an incredible vast potential for self-generating power. The power of one's heart can reach and nourish dry abandoned sites with warmth, empathy, water. It is our shared humanity manifested through community dance, that can get us to celebrate life. Life is beautiful when it is made of human value, and so is water

12. Juni     10h:   Performance

Place:   POLAND / WARSAW / SOLEC

During our work on this project, we were looking for a soothing and peaceful urban space in Warsaw. We chose a location near the left bank of the Vistula River - Płyta Desantu 3 Dywizji Piechoty in Warsaw, Poland. In the choreographic action choreographed by Beniamin Citkowski, the most important thing is water and people, gratitude for the water and the life that flows within us.

We invite you to the presentation of a choreographic project. The starting point is water! We celebrate its value and strength. Join our ritual and let's dance together! This project is part of this year's edition of the international GLOBAL WATER DANCES FESTIVAL 2021 event organized in cooperation with Tanz & Theater im PHYNIX and ZAWIROWANIA Dance Theater. JOIN THE WAVE, MAKE A SPLASH!

film screening at the art exhibition Kladenske dvorky,
the city of Kladno

We were performing on 5 different sites in Prague. Each film shooting was site specific at 6 a.m. in the morning.
We made rituals for each site, each part of the river, creek, spring, lake.

Due to the covid situation, we welcomed the opportunity to make a dance movie of our rituals. We were meeting for two weeks, always 6 a.m. with the sunrise at different bodies of water in Prague. Vltava river is central, but we have few springs and creeks which flow into the Vltava and we wanted to make this connection.
Our water needs cleansing rituals and this is what we were doing each morning. Rituals, where only nature and the camera was our witness. We welcomed the global theme of Permaculture, as we recognize how crucial is human behavior and maintenance of our drinking water. Our 16 dancers were going through a process of learning the permaculture principles implemented into our movement/dance expression .

Zacharoula Zechiri-Global Water Dances Greece

Sonntag 13. Juni 2021 18:30-22:30h (Greek time)

We are dancing next to the Thermaic Gulf or Gulf of Salonika or Macedonian Gulf constituting the northwest corner of the Aegean Sea next to the fountains of the Great Alexander's Garden in Nea Paralia Thessaloniki.
Alexander the Great is a really important personality for Hellas and his statue showing him on his horseback gazing at Thermaikos and the snow-capped Mount Olympus at the same place since 1973 and even after the renovation of nea paralia underlines the importance of man's and animal's attention towards the sea and the mountain and strengthens the message we want to give through our dance that if we keep balance between the elements, then animals, plants and people will live in peace and prosper.
This year’s event we want to arise awareness about the importance of the water, earth, fire and air as the first four elements that they could easily be the atoms inside us. If we understand that we are because of our natural environment then maybe we could succeed concern.
We will collaborate with KIDS SAVE LIVES, CENTER OF GREEK SIGN LANGUAGE, DR KONSTANTINOS MOUROUTIS & NEW LIFE, ISEA, SEIKILO, MUNICIPALITY THESSALONIKI, HEHE ART, PARANAUE and more.

Dance on the shores of Hornád, the river running across our city.
Our local dance reflects on the more conscious relationship we aim to establish with the ways we use water - saving, recycling water.
"We copy the surrounding nature and its elements, we mirror and reflect one another, we establish relationships with the river flowing at our feet. As a group, we connect with the nature's small water cycle via symbolic gesture of returning "a handful of water" we have consciously saved at our homes back to the land."

'Sustainable Bodies', a community dance performance project initiated by the choreographer Anna Katalina in collaboration with Apocapoc BCN, Nest City Lab, within the frame of Global Water Dances 2021.
The development of the social choreography 'Sustainable Bodies', opens up an opportunity for people to come together, to learn about their own bodies, acknowledging and re-discovering themselves as sustainable energy sources through movement, through the conscious use of breath and dance, in relation to one another.
This first performance prompts for the development of this project, not only as a community, but as a movement to adopt embodied practices that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, to reach sustainability and balance.
